Kniphofia thomsonii 'Stern's Trip

£15.00

OUT OF STOCK

A very different and desirable kniphofia, always scarce, almost more reminiscent of an aloe really. Very effective in the border and makes a clump by stolons.
Beautiful 'energetic' flowers in hues of red to orange to yellow over a very long period up to frosts. it was hardy at Cotswold Garden Flowers in Evesham on heavy clay (if you have been there on a really cold day!) but it enjoys moisture in summer to give it's best so a light mulch is a good things.
Give it space, it is worth it, sells itself really.... (Photo taken in November 2024)
The description 'Stern's Trip' refers to the fact it is a sterile triploid form not Stern's private activities...

thomsonii makes a lovely small patch and has a good constitution but because of it's nature it is slow to produce saleable plants which is why it is not in the local garden centre and something to covet!
