So, dichroas are evergreen hydrangea relatives well worth growing for flowers and brilliant berries. They have been around for some time but just a few are the best for most collections. This one was originally collected in 1985 on an expedition to Guizhou in China that collected some very good garden worthy plants. It has grown happily in Kew, London for some years so definitely one to have. I love mine, I have slightly acid soil so it is lovely blue flowers and in the late summer/autumn striking blue berries. However on more alkaline soil still very attractive pink flowers with vibrant berries. This one is manageable enough to grow in a pot where it could look really good, in fact I am going to try it...today, no next week.
For the plant nerds it was known as versicolor for ages but Flora of China (online) see it as 'daimingshanensis' and thats good enough for me. Just fits on my label!
