A beautiful, recently introduced hornbeam with handsome, large, heavily veined leaves and striking pendant fruiting catkins up to 40cm long. Very different to other hornbeams, fangiana was first collected by Fang Wen-Pei near Nanchuan Xian in Southern Sichuan. Seems to prefer some shade in cultivation.
