Collected on the 1994 expedition this is a really good cotoneaster, a favourite. Tall with with small glossy leaves that start to take orange tones in winter against the fully formed bright red fruits. Named for Frederick Stern who sponsored Reginald Farrer's 1919 expedition to China. I mention this because Frederick Stern created HIGHDOWN gardens. A beautiful garden in a corner of Sussex I highly recommend. So romantic on a summers evening and full of plant treasures. Frederick Stern investigated the boundaries of growing plants on Sussex chalk. AVAILABLE IN SPRING
