An amazingly hardy form of a simply stunning exotic plant. The rosettes of grey-green foliage form large clumps and as they mature a spectacular thing happens. The inside of the leaves turn scarlet red and then the entire leaf becomes bright crimson as a bud forms in the centre, opening to a bright iridescent blue flower. Perfectly hardy to at least -10C but susceptible to winter wet, so a raised bed is perfect , or a very well-drained pot with lots of grit. We have never lost a plant with winter cold. A native of the forests of Chile.
